Purpose of the Commission
- To centralize and disseminate information
- To consult with other organized groups and/or government agencies
- To propose and recommend programs and policies that foster equality, achievement, justice and a safe environment
- To provide a forum to increase the participation of county women
- To study the needs, problems, capabilities, interests, and concerns of Cape May County women and girls
The ultimate goal of the county commission is to enhance the quality of life and position of the women and girls in Cape May County.
Who We Are The Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders created the Advisory Commission on the Status of Women on December 11, 1984. In 2016, the Commission was renamed Cape May County's Women's Advisory Commission.
Currently, Cape May County Freeholder E. Marie Hayes serves as liaison to the commission. The members of the commission represent various segments of the county's population.
How You Can Participate
All county residents are invited to participate and volunteer in commission activities. The commission sponsors special events and facilitates various workshops and seminars throughout the year that are advertised. We encourage all county women and girls to advise us of their needs and interests by attending our meetings. Also, we welcome your ideas for future programs.
Rules & Procedures
The Cape May County's Women's Advisory Commission has prescribed rules and procedures that all members of the board must abide by.
During any given year, the commission may find a need to amend the rules and procedures. In order to justify such a procedure, the proposed amendment(s) must be discussed with, and approved by, at least a quorum of the members. Once the members are in agreement, the existing document containing the proposed amendment(s) is submitted to the county Board of Chosen Freeholders for their review.
Upon receipt of the Freeholders' approval, a final revised document is prepared, and sent to the Freeholders for signature. When the final document is signed and dated, the Clerk/Administrator of the Board of Chosen Freeholders prepares a Resolution that is signed and dated signifying the revisions are accepted as written. A transmittal letter, the Resolution, and a signed and dated copy of the revised Rules and Procedures are sent to the commission for its files.
