Guided Zoo Tour

This 90-minute guided tour will be a great complement to your visit through our Zoo. During your tour you will be accompanied by our trained staff and you will have the opportunity to learn about our animals, their habitats, conservation efforts and ask as many questions as you want! This tour is great if this is your first time at our zoo or if you are a repeat visitor. Behind the scene options are not included with this tour.

  • Free for children 2 years old and younger with a paid adult 
  • There is a minimum charge of $50.

Did you ever wish to be toe to toe with a Giraffe? Want to be kissed by a camel, or give a treat to a parrot?  Our Animal Encounters provide guests with a one of a kind experience. Come monkey around with our zookeepers and learn about our amazing animals during this up-close experience.

Below are the different animal encounters we offer:

  • Giraffe Encounter - Come join us behind the scenes to experience an up close view of one of the world’s most gentle giants. See them wrap their tongues around leafy greens while you learn about their natural behaviors and how we care for them daily.
    • Must be booked at least two days in advance.
    • Maximum of 10 people per encounter. Minimum of 2 people.
    • Offered daily at 2:00 pm. Weather dependent.  
  • Otter Encounter - Dive right into this amazing animal encounter with our North American River Otters! On this encounter you will get to see the otters up close in their behind the scenes habitat. Watch as they paint you your own personal work of art and enjoy a private training session between the otters and their keeper. 
    • Must be booked at least ten days in advance.
    • Maximum of 5 people per encounter. Minimum of 3 people.
    • Only offered Fridays & Saturdays at 11:30 am. 
  • Reptile Encounter - On this encounter you will get an up close view of one of the world’s longest living animals, the Aldabra Tortoise. After meeting with our resident tortoises. You’ll be able to visit with our American Alligator, Ike. Experiences our reptiles as your learn about their natural behaviors and how we care for them daily.
    • Must be booked at least ten days in advance.
    • Maximum of 5 people per encounter. Minimum of 3 people.
    • Only offered Wednesdays through Sundays at 11:30 am. Weather dependent.           
  • Primate Encounter - Come meet our amazing primates up-close and personal. On this encounter guests will be able to watch a training session between them and their keeper. In addition you will learn interesting information about our primates and be able to ask their keeper questions. On this tour you will also be able to see their new indoor habitat.
    • Must be booked at least ten days in advance.
    • Maximum of 5 people per encounter. Minimum of 3 people.
    • Only offered Wednesdays & Saturdays at 12:00 pm. Weather dependent.
    • All participants must be up to date on vaccinations and in good health as primates and humans have communicable diseases. 
  •  Camel Encounter - Our camels are awaiting your arrival! Step behind the scenes with our expert camel keeper and learn about the amazing adaptions camels have to survive. You will have the opportunity to get up-close with both our Bactrian and Dromedary camels and watch as they munch on some tasty treats.
    • Must be booked at least two days in advance.
    • Maximum of 10 people per encounter. Minimum of 2 people.
    • Offered daily at 2:00 pm.
  • Aviary Encounter – Step off the beaten path and into our World of Birds. On this tour you’ll have the opportunity to feed some crunchy bugs to the residents of the Aviary. Your group will also be able to meet our flock of flamingos, as well as some of the colorful parrots.
    • Must be booked at least ten days in advance.
    • Maximum of 6 people per encounter. Minimum of 3 people.
    • Offered Sunday through Wednesday at 2:00 pm.

All encounters must have a minimum amount of people. If you would like an individual tour please call prior to booking. 

All participants must be over the age of 5.

Animal Encounter Information & Guidelines 

  • All participants are expected to follow the instructions of the Cape May County Zoo Staff and behave in an appropriate manner. Any screaming, harassment of the animals, or inappropriate behavior will result in an immediate end to the tour and ejection from the zoo.
  • Due to the unpredictability of animals, tour experiences may vary.
  • Each tour has a minimum number of people. If you would like to do an individual tour for 1 person, you must pay the  minimum associated with that tour.
  • For safety reasons, children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Children must be 5 years or older to participate in an animal encounter or behind the scene tour.
  • All tours are walking tours. No transportation is provided. Closed toed shoes are recommended.
  • Tours are not guaranteed to be private, unless your group fills the maximum capacity.
  • The Cape May County Park & Zoo reserves the right to cancel any tour due to unforeseen circumstances. The Zoo will contact you to reschedule your tour.
  • Tours & Animal Encounters are non-refundable; however, if it becomes necessary to reschedule your tour for another date, you may do so by calling at least 48 hours before the tour without incurring any additional charges. Tours cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice will have 30 days to reschedule. No refunds or rescheduling opportunities will be given for no call/no shows.
  • To insure availability, reserving your tour early is highly recommended.

School Groups

Enhance your school field trip or group visit with an private guided zoo tour. If you are coming to visit the zoo with a group of 30 or more this is the best way to experience our zoo and all it has to offer. During your tour one of our experienced zoo educators will take you around and teach your group  about the animals in our care as well as their wild counterparts. With advanced notice we can fine tune your tour to coincide your classes learning goals.

  • Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten
    20 students maximum with 5 adults - $150
    Additional Adult or Child $5.00 each, but may be broken up into two groups
  • 1st through 5th Grades
    25 students maximum with 5 adults - $200
    Additional Adult or Child $5.00 each, but may be broken up into two groups
  • 6th through 12th Grades
    30 students maximum with 5 adults - $250
    Additional Adult or Child $5.00 each, but may be broken up into two groups
